The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is focused on making sure its communications are accessible and understandable to the widest possible audience. As part of this initiative it commissioned Tamesis Digital to create a web tool to help its writers evaluate and improve the readability of their writing.
After consulting with the FCA on its users’ specific UX requirements, we designed and produced an easy-to-use intranet tool, matching the internal FCA branding.
Users of the web tool can now easily check parts of a written document and receive an instant score. The tool uses the widely accepted Flesch-Kincaid and Gunning-Fog scoring system, but unlike alternative tools it also features a customised feedback mechanism and in-text highlighting, and is responsive to different target audiences.
